Butterfly Bush Maintenance
Butterfly bush maintenance is pretty straightforward and easy for any gardener to do. Butterfly bushes are known for their ability to thrive in many different situations that would oftentimes kill other plants and shrubs, including soil that is heavy in alkaline. They are drought tolerant once established and will survive even the heavy pollution of urban areas.

The most important part of butterfly bush maintenance is watering them. Butterfly bushes will need a good amount of water during the hotter summer months until they are established in the area. Once established, butterfly bushes will survive with watering as infrequently as once a month. Butterfly bushes should also be given direct sunlight. They require a minimum of eight hours of sunlight per day to thrive.

Another part of butterfly bush maintenance is pruning. Most butterfly bushes will only flower on new growth, and should therefore be pruned to the ground once they have become dormant, after the first frost. In warmer regions, butterfly bushes often become evergreens. Butterfly bush maintenance in these warmer regions can also mean pruning back to the soil, but this can be done any time of the year.

More information about butterfly bush maintenance can be found at any local nursery or garden center. They would have information particular to the local climate and soil conditions. Butterfly bush maintenance information found online could also be helpful, but in a more general sense, as the information located online is likely tailored to the particular region that the site is based at.
